About the Artist

Simon’s mother was a sculptor and his father a ceramicist.  Simon began his career as a sculptor at an early age and is also an experienced dressage rider.

He had been riding every summer for nearly ten years in Vienna with Hans Riegler of the Spanish Riding School when he produced the present piece Conversation as part of a group of works for his 1989 solo exhibition at Arthur Ackermann & Son in New Bond Street, London.  It deals with the handing down of knowledge between generations, the experienced rider with his horse perfectly in hand and the novice on his inexperienced horse, distracted by something it has just seen.

The other casts are in collections internationally, including the Kerry Packer Sculpture Garden in Victoria, Australia.
